Sanford Research awarded grant for undergraduate research

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Sanford Research has been awarded a nearly $400,000 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to fund undergraduate cellular and molecular biology research. This is the third NSF grant Sanford Research has been awarded since launching a 10-week undergraduate summer program in 2010.

The summer program focuses on cellular and molecular biology as well as other research specialties at Sanford Research. The program is the only one of its kind funded by an NSF grant in the state of South Dakota, which provides career and professional development training to prepare students for research careers.

The NSF funding is designed specifically to fund research opportunities for undergraduate students with an emphasis on students from underrepresented backgrounds.
