SIOUX FALLS, S.D., June 26, 2020 — The South Dakota High School Activities Association has awarded the 2023 South Dakota Girls “A” State Basketball Tournament and the 2024 South Dakota Girls “AA” State Basketball Tournament to the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

The girls “A” tournament is scheduled for March 9-11, 2023, and the girls “AA” tournament is scheduled for March 7-9, 2024. The Sanford Pentagon will also host the girls “AA” tournament in 2021.

“Playing for a state championship is the pinnacle of an athlete’s high school career, and we promise to give the players, coaches and fans a tournament experience on Heritage Court they will always remember,” said Steve Young, president of Sanford Sports. “Crowning champions is one of the reasons the Pentagon was built, and we are honored to play a role in that celebration.”

The Sanford Pentagon has hosted dozens of elite high school girls and boys games since opening in 2013. The Pentagon has also hosted multiple NCAA and NAIA championships including the 2015, 2016 and 2018 NCAA DII women’s basketball Elite Eight, the 2017 and 2018 NCAA DII men’s basketball Elite Eight, the 2015 NCAA DII volleyball Elite Eight as well as the 2018-2020 NAIA DII men’s basketball tournament.

The Sanford Pentagon is also home to the Sanford POWER Basketball Academy, the region’s premier basketball program where athletes of all ages fine tune their skills to prepare for the prep season.
