Sanford Park Rapids Clinic to host screening events Sept. 9

PARK RAPIDS, Minn. – The Sanford Health Park Rapids Clinic will host multiple screening events on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the clinic, 110 7th St. West. The Park Rapids Rotary Club and Sanford Health will team up to offer blood screenings, while Sanford Health will also offer cervical cancer screenings and mammograms.

Blood Screening
The Park Rapids Rotary Club and Sanford Health will host the blood screening event from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The simple blood test can provide information about several measures of health and may help identify results that should be discussed with a primary care provider.

This year an additional hemoglobin A1-C test has been added. The cost is $40 and the comprehensive screening includes:

Participants will receive an official report from Sanford Laboratories with results compared to a reference range, either through My Sanford Chart or by mail. A follow-up with your primary care clinician regarding any results that fall outside the reference range is recommended.

Fasting is not a requirement. For questions about taking prescribed medications, contact your primary care provider.

Cervical Cancer Screening and Mammograms
Sanford Health will offer cervical cancer screenings from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Women attending will receive a Pap smear performed by one of the Park Rapids family medicine providers, Shelly Mahowald, NP, or Tina Wedde, NP.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to connect with Sanford Health professionals to discuss personal risk factors, ways to reduce risk and practical steps for long-term prevention.

Pap smears are recommended every three years for women ages 21–30 and every five years for women ages 30–65, or sooner if symptoms occur.

Mammograms will also be offered in the mobile mammography unit, which will be parked outside the Sanford Health Park Rapids Clinic. Mammograms are recommended every year beginning at age 40 for women at average risk of breast cancer. To schedule a mammogram, call (218) 333-4624.

Patients should bring insurance information to the appointment. For those who are uninsured or not covered for the screening, information on free programs will be available.
