SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Sanford Health leaders will discuss how Sanford Health is using technology to improve patient care at a national conference featuring a diverse group of thought leaders from across the country. Brad Reimer, chief information officer, and Jared Antczak, chief digital officer, are speaking on panels at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), being held next week in Chicago.

Reimer is one of three speakers taking part in a discussion entitled: “How Global Health Systems are Raising the Bar on Virtual Care.” Reimer will be joined by leaders from Samsung Medical Center and Atrium Health. The panel will be moderated by Tjasa Zajc, founder and host of the Faces of Digital Health podcast.

“I am grateful to have the opportunity to demonstrate our unique expertise, innovation, clinical excellence, patient experience improvements and impact in rural health care on a national stage,” said Reimer. “Sanford Health continues to leverage technology to improve patient care and the patient experience. This event gives our organization an incredible platform to showcase what we’re doing in the digital space to move health care forward.”

Antczak is one of two speakers on the topic of “Creating Meaningful Consumerism in Healthcare: Intelligent Automation and the Empowered Patient Experience.” He will be joined by the chief information officer at North Kansas City Hospital and Meritas Health. The panel will be moderated by Muthu Alagappan, M.D., the chief medical officer at Notable.

“We are focused on identifying the challenges that our patients are experiencing, then matching those with the right digital solutions to make care more accessible, seamless and equitable,” said Antczak. “Virtual care options hold tremendous promise by increasing access, convenience, care coordination and continuity, improving patient outcomes and filling in gaps in provider coverage, particularly in underserved areas across Sanford Health’s footprint.”

In the fall of 2021, Sanford Health announced a $350 million virtual care initiative. As part of the initiative, Sanford Health will focus on expanding access, improving the patient experience, advancing innovation through new research, attracting and training a new generation of clinicians and sharing learning opportunities through an education institute.

Sanford Health has already provided more than 650,000 virtual consults with patients over the last decade – amounting to roughly 25 million miles saved by patients who did not have to travel great distances on country roads or through harsh winter weather to get world-class care.
