SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Sanford Health is now administering the new monovalent COVID-19 vaccine labeled the “2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccine,” which targets the omicron variant XBB.1.5. This vaccine replaces the most recent bivalent COVID vaccine that came out in 2022.

While new COVID-19 strains circulate, the 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccine is expected to provide cross-protection this respiratory illness season.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyone 6 months and older receive the updated COVID-19 vaccine if it’s been at least two months since their most recent dose.

Several Sanford clinics are now administering the 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccine.

There is a limited number of vaccines available at this time. Patients should call their primary care provider’s clinic to learn about vaccine availability and schedule an appointment. Appointments can also be scheduled through the My Sanford Chart app.
