FARGO, N.D., April 27, 2021 – Sanford Dermatology & Laser Clinic in Fargo will host a free skin screening event for the community on May 3 from 2:30 to 7 p.m.  The event will be held on Melanoma Monday which designated by the American Academy of Dermatology annually the first Monday in May, part of an awareness campaign during National Skin Cancer Awareness Month.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. The two most common types of skin cancer—basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas—are highly curable, but can be disfiguring and costly to treat. Melanoma, the third most common skin cancer, is more dangerous and causes the most deaths. However, it is highly treatable if caught early.

The skin screening event will be held at Sanford Dermatology & Laser Clinic, 4656 40th Avenue South in Fargo. Appointments are required and available only for those 18 and older who have not been seen by a Sanford dermatologist for a skin check within the last two years. You do not need to be a current Sanford Health patient to schedule a screening.

Call 701-234-8860 to schedule an appointment. Times are limited.

Risk factors for skin cancer include sun exposure, tanning bed use, family history of skin cancer and/or unusual moles or spots.
