FARGO, N.D., July 21, 2020 — Sanford Health is continuing to expand in Fargo by constructing 14 new patient rooms and support space on the northwest wing of the eighth floor at Sanford Medical Center Fargo. Construction began Monday, July 20, with a large crane on site to hoist materials through a window. Sanford expects to have the wing ready to care for general medical/surgical patients in December.

When Sanford’s newest medical center in Fargo opened in July 2017, several areas were left unfinished for future expansion. In 2018, Sanford Fargo created 18 beds on another wing of the eighth floor because the medical center had already exceeded its projected 2022 patient demand.

“The demand for our services continues to outpace our expectations, which is a great problem to have. We are definitely committed to meeting the need. Adding 36 more beds only a few years after opening is pretty remarkable,” said Sanford Fargo President and CEO Bryan Nermoe. “It’s a tribute to our doctors and staff. They are so good at what they do, it’s an honor to work with them every day.”

The construction area is the final unfinished space on the eighth floor, which also has an 18-bed innovation unit that provides care for general medical/surgical patients and serves as a central area for trialing patient care improvements. One half of the seventh floor is still unfinished, with the potential to create 32 more rooms.

Currently, Sanford Fargo has 610 beds available for in-patient care at its three Fargo campuses: 348 beds at Sanford Medical Center Fargo, 188 beds at Sanford Medical Center Broadway, its downtown campus, and 74 at Sanford South University Medical Center. On Friday, July 17, Sanford Fargo was caring for a total of 475 patients among its three medical centers.

“Our population continues to grow, and Sanford continues to grow our facilities, staff, specialties and health care advancements so that patients can receive the most state-of-the-art, comprehensive care close to home,” said Nermoe.
