Sanford East Grand Forks hosting free skin cancer screening

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn.Sanford East Grand Forks is hosting a free skin cancer screening on Thursday, April 23.

The free skin cancer screening event takes place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Sanford East Grand Forks Dermatology Clinic, 625 Demers Ave. The screening event is for new patients only. An appointment is required and can be scheduled by calling 218-773-5900.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. The two most common types of skin cancer, basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas, are highly curable, but can be disfiguring and costly to treat. Melanoma, the third most common skin cancer, is more dangerous and causes the most deaths. However, it is highly treatable if caught early.

Risk factors for skin cancer include sun exposure, tanning bed use, family history of skin cancer and unusual moles or spots.
