BISMARCK, N.D., Oct. 9, 2019 — Sanford Health is unveiling its vision for downtown Bismarck, which will feature a state-of-the-art, all-inclusive heart hospital adjacent to the existing medical center. The Bismarck heart hospital will combine heart services in one location, as the health system continues to develop the region’s premier heart program.

“When it comes to caring for a heart attack or stroke patient, minutes matter,” said Dr. Michael LeBeau, president at Sanford Health in Bismarck. “We have spent the past five years establishing a comprehensive heart program focused on quality outcomes, increasing access across central and western North Dakota and advancing technology and procedures. Combining those efforts in a new heart hospital will significantly improve access for patients and provide our heart team with all of the resources they need to care for these patients under one roof.”

New providers, new procedures

Since 2015, Sanford has added more than 15 providers to its heart team in Bismarck, including an electrophysiologist who will start later this year. It was also the first health care system in central and western North Dakota to introduce minimally invasive cardiac procedures, such as the transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

Sanford is a firm believer in promises made, promises kept. When the health care organization expanded its footprint to central and western North Dakota in 2012, a promise was made to invest in the region. Construction of the Bismarck heart hospital, in addition to the projects already completed and underway to create additional space and enhance services, will exceed that promise.
