SIOUX FALLS, S.D., May 18, 2021 — Sanford Health’s Nurse Residency Program was recently awarded Full Accreditation with Distinction from the American Nurses Credentialing Center Practice Transition Accreditation Program.

This significant achievement elevates Sanford Health’s program to an elite group of only 201 other accredited programs throughout the world. It is the first program in both North and South Dakota to receive such designation and joins a small number of organizations in Minnesota with this level of recognition.

Sanford’s Nurse Residency Program is an evidence-based program designed to provide personal and professional support to new graduate nurses. Through this partnership, nurse residents will develop professional relationships and resources needed to thrive in their new positions and successfully transition from student nurse to professional registered nurse.

“I feel that the nurse residency program has helped me in my career by giving me the confidence to go about my day,” said Katie Wieneke, a registered nurse at Sanford Worthington, and a graduate of the program. “During the program, I felt that I gained confidence in performing daily tasks and dealing with certain situations that arose.”

Qualifying nurses with less than 12 months of experience who accept a position as a registered nurse in a participating facility are automatically enrolled in the program.
