SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — This holiday season, choose to give local to help patients and their families receiving care at Sanford Children’s Hospital while listening to the Midwest Communications Radiothon presented by Nielson Construction.

Listeners can tune in to Big Country 92.5 KTWB and KELO-FM 101.9 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday to hear stories of hope and courage. Families will share their personal stories of how the Castle of Care helped save children like 3-year-old, Selah, who survived a serious case of pneumonia. Selah was having trouble breathing and was taken to Sanford’s emergency room where she was diagnosed with RSV. RSV soon turned into a much more serious, rare form of necrotizing pneumonia in Selah’s right lung that caused the lining of her lungs to deteriorate and fill with air bubbles. Selah was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) where she was intubated with a ventilator. Thanks to the PICU team at Sanford Children’s Hospital, after 26 days of exceptional care and close monitoring, Selah beat all odds and was able to return home to be with her siblings.

“We saw many blessings in our time at the castle that were big and small,” Selah’s dad explained. “Even those small things were very impactful to our family and our story, and most of all, Selah. She is here because of the Children’s Hospital, without question.”

“One hundred percent of every gift given during the radiothon will stay local to help care for kids and their families, kids like Selah. The Sanford Children’s Hospital is in Sioux Falls, but patients come from all over the region to seek the best care, close to home,” said Erin Sanderson, executive director of Sanford Health Foundation in Sioux Falls. “That’s why events like this radiothon are so important to continue providing that world-class care to patients and their families. We’re grateful to those who choose to give back to Sanford Children’s this holiday season.”

Listeners will also be given advanced notice of when their donation can be tripled. A triple match challenge will be held from Noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday. Listeners can call 605-328-5750 to donate during the radiothon. Donations will support the purchase of specialized, state-of-the-art equipment, advance pediatric research, and assist families with expenses not covered by insurance, like meals, mileage and lodging. Funds raised also support special programs and services, like Child Life, spiritual care services, and on-site school tutors.

The Sanford Health Foundation inspires philanthropy to power Sanford Health’s work of health, healing, and comfort. One hundred percent of every dollar raised helps deliver compassionate patient-centered care and drive medical research and collaboration to accelerate bold solutions for a brighter tomorrow.
