Latest cancer technology now available at Sanford Watertown

WATERTOWN, S.D. — Cancer patients in the Watertown region now have access to faster treatment times and advanced precision thanks to new technology available at the Sanford Watertown Cancer Center.
Oncologists at the Sanford Watertown Cancer Center are now using advanced radiation technology to treat patients. The new linear accelerator (LINAC) delivers high-energy electrons to the region of the patient’s tumor. It shapes radiation beams to match the size and shape of the tumor, allowing doctors to focus treatment on cancer cells while reducing exposure to nearby healthy tissue. Since less healthy tissue receives radiation, patients may experience fewer treatment-related side effects.
“This upgraded equipment and technology are gamechangers for patients in our region, as it will help treat cancer more accurately, efficiently and safely,” said John Allen, vice president of operations, Sanford Health Network. “The investment in advanced technology reflects our commitment to providing world-class cancer care close to home.”
The new linear accelerated is located in an expanded space at the Sanford Watertown Cancer Center.
Recently, Sanford Watertown Cancer Center also converted to Epic, an electronic medical record system that connects patients to the Sanford Health network of clinicians. All patients at Sanford Watertown now have an easier way to access their medical records with the addition of MyChart.
