FARGO, N.D. – A grand slam opportunity for the youth is coming to the Fargo-Moorhead metro.
Sanford Health, in partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Red River Valley and the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber, is forming the inaugural Roger Maris Academy. The Maris Academy, which is a part of All-Star Week, will begin with a kick-off event on Wednesday, June 15, at Fargo Oak Grove High School.
The Maris Academy is designed to be a year-long program to help youth in our community explore various pathways to a great career. Thirty local middle school students will participate in combined educational and mentorship opportunities designed to help them discover their future careers. The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Red River Valley in partnership with Sanford Health and the FMWF Chamber has developed an exciting curriculum for the program.
“The Maris Academy is all about giving kids an opportunity to get on the right track by sharpening their educational and life skills,” said Roger Maris Jr. “By making this more than a one day thing and having this mentorship last a full year, I really think we can change the lives of some of these children. Our dad would be so proud with how his legacy is living on.”
“We are excited about this partnership with Sanford Health and the FMWF Chamber,” said Robin Nelson, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Red River Valley. “Not only for the positive opportunities and experiences it will offer the youth, but also for the potential it will provide for the future of workforce development in our community.”
Roger Maris All-Star Week was created to support the work happening at the Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center, honor loved ones, friends and neighbors affected by cancer, promote Roger’s passion for fitness and youth sports and celebrate the enduring legacy of hometown hero, Roger Maris.
