Cullen foundation announces gift for therapeutic play area

Fargo, N.D., June 17, 2021 – The Cullen Children’s Foundation is excited to announce a gift in the amount of $500,000 to benefit the Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center. The gift is designated for a 1,000-square-foot pediatric therapeutic play area located within Roger Maris. The playroom will be lovingly named “Cully’s Cottage” after it’s big sister, “Cully’s Cabin” at Sanford Children’s Hospital in Fargo, ND.

The Cullen Children’s Foundation was founded in 2003 by Moorhead native and former NHL player Matt Cullen and his wife, Bridget Cullen. The Foundation has had a long-time relationship with Sanford Health dating back to 2005. Throughout the years there have been a multitude of partnerships with the most recent being a $1 Million dollar donation to build and outfit “Cully’s Cabin”. The cabin provides a place where children and their families can take a break from the day-to-day stressors of healing and be a kid again. “Cully’s Cottage” will do the same by providing a respite for children receiving treatment at Roger Maris.

“We are thrilled to once again partner with Sanford to bring ‘Cully’s Cottage’ to Sanford’s Roger Maris Cancer Center in downtown Fargo. Cully’s Cabin has been all we had hoped for in providing a positive impact on children going through some serious difficulties in their young lives. We are so thankful to all of our sponsors, donors and volunteers for allowing us to make this a reality,” said Matt and Bridget Cullen.

“Children being cared for at Sanford Children’s Hospital have enjoyed a special place to just be kids during what can be very scary and stressful times, thanks to the generosity of the Cullen Children’s Foundation, along with Matt and Bridget Cullen,” said Bryan Nermoe, president and CEO of Sanford Health in Fargo. “We are honored and grateful that the joy Cully’s Cabin at Sanford Children’s brings will now be experienced at Roger Maris Cancer Center. It’s another way cancer center will be able to bring hope and healing to children and their families.”
