SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Nov. 1, 2021 — Sanford Clear Lake Clinic is organizing another booster vaccine event for Moderna shots only from 9 am to 4:15 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 9th.

Based on guidance from the CDC and FDA, certain populations can receive a booster shot of the Moderna vaccine to protect themselves against COVID-19. Patients who are 65 or older, those who are between 18 and 64 who are at high risk of severe COVID-19, and those who are 18 to 64 with frequent institutional or occupational exposure to SARS-CoV-2 are eligible to receive a booster dose.

These patients can get a booster if it’s been at least six months since the completion of their primary series of the Moderna vaccine. Since the FDA and CDC approved the mixing and matching of booster vaccines, eligible individuals may receive a different COVID-19 vaccine as a booster than the one they initially received. Moderna’s booster dose is half of what was given in its primary series. Those who received the Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccine can get a booster at least two months after that initial dose. Patients who received Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine are eligible to receive a booster at least six months after their second dose.

Appointments are recommended for this vaccine event at the clinic in Clear Lake. Patients can call 605-874-2141 to schedule one. Walk-ins are welcome, but patients may have to wait. All patients should bring their vaccination card to record the booster dose. Masks must also be worn in the clinic.

This event is for booster shots only of the Moderna vaccine. Patients will not be able to receive any other vaccines at this clinic.

According to the CDC, a booster dose of the Moderna vaccine helps increase protection against COVID-19, helping prevent severe disease for those who are at high-risk for exposure to the virus.
