CHICAGO, IL —Sanford Health Board of Trustees member Brent Teiken is among 14 leaders nationwide recognized by Modern Healthcare with an Excellence in Governance award.

The Excellence in Governance program recognizes influential individuals who serve on a board of directors for a health care organization and foster advancement in culture, mission and performance.

Teiken, who served as chair of the Sanford Health Board of Trustees in 2020-2021, has been a Trustee since 2011. While chair, Teiken concurrently managed the challenges of a global pandemic and a CEO transition, while also overseeing historic philanthropic commitments to the organization. During this period of unprecedented change for Sanford Health, Mr. Teiken led selection of new leadership and drove processes to reinforce system governance and reset the system’s strategy.

“While Brent’s leadership credentials are certainly impressive, his character, commitment and dedication to Sanford Health and those we serve is exemplary,” said Bill Gassen, Sanford Health president and CEO. “Brent cares deeply about his profession and lives out his commitment to health every day — the impact he has had on his colleagues, peers, employees and communities is immeasurable. As a result of his leadership, we are well-positioned to continue advancing our strategic goal of being the premier rural health system in the United States.”

Teiken leads the Salesforce practice for Perficient, a global digital consulting firm. Teiken’s expertise in information technology and digital consultancy became uniquely important during the COVID-19 pandemic as health care organizations needed well-developed online screening, reporting and notification systems; reliable technology for telehealth calls, video visits and virtual employee interviews; and a strong network for an increasingly remote workforce.

“Each of these outstanding directors exemplifies the qualities of excellence in governance: loyalty and service; strategic and innovative vision; and commitment to fostering the values of accountability, diversity, equity and sustainability,” said Fawn Lopez, publisher of Modern Healthcare. “They are invaluable assets to the organizations and communities they serve and to the advancement of health care. We congratulate and thank them for their leadership and dedication.”

This year’s honorees are profiled in the April 18 issue of MH magazine and online at Modernhealthcare.com/awards/excellence-governance-2022
