Jeremy Cauwels, MD, FACP, FHM, serves as Sanford Health’s chief physician. In this role, he represents physician interests to the executive leadership team and Board of Trustees. He also chairs the quality cabinet, champions the system’s effort to become a highly reliable organization and oversees enterprise aspects of the medical staff.

Bill Gassen is president and CEO of Sanford Health, a $7.1 billion integrated health system serving communities across the upper Midwest. Gassen marked his appointment to president and CEO of Sanford Health in November 2020 by committing the organization to three pillars: patients, people and communities. This focus has positioned the system to shape the future of health care for generations to come.

Gassen was recognized by Modern Healthcare in 2022 as one of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare. He is a member of the Health Systems Council of the American Hospital Association and serves on the Board of Directors for Oscar Health and the Healthcare Institute.
Prior to serving as president and CEO, Gassen spent a decade in various senior leadership positions at Sanford Health. He is a former healthcare litigator and current member of the State Bar of South Dakota.

Jason Anschutz is an award-winning multimedia journalist for Sanford Health News. He has more than 10 years of television broadcast and video production experience in Sioux Falls, Milwaukee and Fargo. Jason joined the Sanford Health News team in January 2021. He spends most of his free time making memories with his wife and two young sons, and he also enjoys golf and baseball. Jason is a film lover, especially on cold, winter nights in Fargo. Bethany Freel, BS, is a graduate student in the Francis Lab at Sanford Research. She previously worked as a summer research intern in the Chandrasekar Lab at Sanford Research. She earned a BS in biology at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri.
Robert Canham, M.D., is an orthopedic surgeon at Sanford Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Bismarck, N.D. Dr. Canham received his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri, his orthopedic residency at Barnes Jewish Hospital/Washington University in St. Louis, and his fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland. Matt Holsen is an Upper Midwest Emmy Award winning journalist for Sanford Health News. He has more than 20 years of radio and television broadcast experience in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
