SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Newsweek has once again named the Sanford USD Medical Center, located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to its list of World’s Best Hospitals for 2026. Sanford Health is ranked No. 63 out of 416 hospitals in the United States on the list.

The Sanford USD Medical Center shares inclusion on the list with world-class health care organizations such as Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital.

According to Newsweek, the ranking is based on an extensive evaluation process, including an online survey of thousands of medical experts (doctors, hospital managers and health care professionals), patient experience data, hospital quality metrics and a PROMs Implementation Survey. Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) are defined as standardized, validated questionnaires completed by patients to measure their perception of their functional well-being and quality of life.

“Sharing this recognition with such high quality hospitals across the country is a testament to the incredible team of caregivers and staff we have at the Sanford USD Medical Center,” said Andy Munce, president and CEO of Sanford Health in Sioux Falls. “Each person plays a pivotal role in the health care experience, and this honor is validation of the work we do to continuously enhance and improve the care we provide our patients.”

The Sanford USD Medical Center is the only Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center in South Dakota verified by the American College of Surgeons. It is the largest hospital in South Dakota as well as a teaching hospital for the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine.

With 545 beds and 4,000 employees, the Sanford USD Medical Center’s comprehensive care includes emergency air transport, neonatal and pediatric intensive care, transplant services and specialty centers in children’s care, heart, cancer, neuroscience, sports medicine and women’s health.
