THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – Sanford Thief River Falls is hosting a free skin cancer screening on Wednesday, June 11, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sanford Thief River Falls Dermatology Clinic, 1720 Highway 59 S. An appointment is required for the skin cancer screenings.
A skin check from a dermatology provider is a visual exam that is painless and could save your life. Providers typically provide patients a gown to wear and perform a “head-to-toe” examination. Sanford Health recommends patients to avoid wearing makeup, as well as to avoid hairstyles that are difficult to take down to make it easier for the provider to identify any potential spots of concern.
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime, and nearly 20 Americans die from melanoma – the deadliest form of skin cancer – every day. Yet when caught early, skin cancer is highly treatable. For more information about how to prevent and detect skin cancer, including instructions on how to perform a skin self-exam, visit PracticeSafeSun.org. Anyone who has concerns about their skin, hair, or nails should see a dermatology provider for an accurate diagnosis and proper treatment.
To schedule an appointment for the free skin cancer screening, call 218-681-4747.
