FARGO, ND – Sanford Health Fargo has received a 2023 Rising Star recognition from Vizient, Inc. The recognition honors Sanford Health for making significant improvements in its year-over-year rankings and scoring in the top quartile in the Vizient Quality and Accountability Ranking.
“This award signifies our unwavering commitment to excellence in health care, exemplifying not only our ability, but also our determination required to achieve this distinction,” said Dr. Steven Briggs, Sanford Fargo vice president, medical officer. “This recognition solidifies Sanford’s position as a leader in delivering the highest quality of care to our patients. It proudly joins several recent accolades, all of which underscore our ongoing pursuit of excellence in health care.”
The Rising Star Award recognizes comprehensive academic medical centers that made significant improvement in care quality, measured by a rise in at least 20 positions in the annual Vizient Quality and Accountability Ranking from the prior year and scoring in the top 25.
“Our dedicated staff’s unwavering commitment and tireless efforts have propelled us to receive this prestigious award,” said Theresa Larson, Sanford Fargo vice president, nursing. “This recognition serves as a testament to their unyielding devotion and steadfast dedication to providing superior patient care.”
The annual ranking assesses data from participating academic faculty practices to measure performance in six domains: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient centeredness and equity of care. It factors in measures from the Vizient Clinical Data Base and includes performance data from the HCAHPS survey and the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network for work spanning July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023.

As a Rising Star, Sanford Health services as an outstanding example of executing these best practices to achieve this top-quartile performance in quality, efficiency and effectiveness.”
Sanford Fargo encompasses multiple medical centers, including Sanford Broadway Medical Center, Sanford South University Medical Center and Sanford Medical Center Fargo, all of which contribute to Sanford Fargo’s standing in the Vizient Quality and Accountability Ranking.
