BISMARCK, N.D. (August 11, 2021) — Dr. Todd Schaffer, vice president, clinic, at Sanford in Bismarck, has been named the new president and CEO of Sanford Bismarck, succeeding Dr. Michael LeBeau, who has been promoted to an enterprise leadership role for Sanford Health.

Dr. Schaffer, a family medicine physician, has been with Sanford Health for nearly seven years, specializing in treating acute illnesses and injuries in Sanford’s walk-in clinics before assuming his administrative role. He became vice president, clinic, in 2019. The Carrington, North Dakota native has been an instrumental leader throughout the pandemic. He earned his medical degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from North Dakota State University.

In addition to his work at Sanford Health, Dr. Schaffer serves as a Colonel and the State Surgeon for the North Dakota Army National Guard and has served four tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. He recently graduated with distinction from the United States Army War College, earning a master’s in strategic studies.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to lead the Bismarck region of Sanford Health,” said Dr. Schaffer. “As I take the baton from Dr. LeBeau, I look forward to continuing our vision of being the region’s health care leader and investing in the communities we serve to enhance care delivery.

Dr. LeBeau, who has served as the Bismarck region president since 2019, has accepted a new role and will become the chief administrative officer for Sanford Health’s health services division, which includes health care operations in Bismarck, Fargo, Sioux Falls and Bemidji.

During his time as president and CEO, Dr. LeBeau has led the continued growth of Sanford Bismarck, including the expansion of services, quality improvement and Williston partnership. His leadership has been instrumental in the organization’s regional response to COVID-19 and Sanford Health’s role in taking care of patients and communities through the pandemic.

“For the past two years, I’ve been honored to serve our communities as we’ve worked to bring exceptional care to patients when they need it most. I look forward to taking on my new role within Sanford Health, and bringing with me all the knowledge I’ve gained from my time in Bismarck,” said Dr. LeBeau.

Dr. LeBeau, a New Town, North Dakota native, has been with Sanford for more than 13 years, starting his career as a nephrologist.
