Sanford veterans and military services: Podcast

veterans podcast: two guys talking on the radio

This veterans podcast helps explain Sanford Health’s department of veterans and military services. The goal is to streamline and add resources for veterans, military personnel and their families across the health system.

Paul Weckman, a veteran who held several leadership positions during more than 26 years of distinguished active duty service in the U.S. Navy, leads the department. A retired captain, Weckman was honorably discharged from the Navy in 2011.

“We’re finding out that when a veteran comes in and sees a fellow veteran who is a provider or a nurse, the anxiety level goes down and they’re going to be able to be more open about how things are going,” said Weckman in this veterans podcast. “We want to ensure when they leave they feel we’ve done a good job of taking care of them.”

The Sanford Health Department of Veterans and Military Services helps veterans and military personnel obtain health care services, navigate care and insurance coverage, identify wellness services and search for employment opportunities. It also offers family support services and veteran community outreach.

Sanford Health also is participating in the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, or ESGR, program. Kelby Krabbenhoft, Sanford Health president and CEO, signed a statement pledging to support the military services of employees and advocate for employee participation in the military.

Employees who have served now have the option to display their veteran status on their identification badge. Job-seeking veterans can also visit Sanford Health’s veterans job site, which matches military jobs with open positions.

The Sanford Veteran Information Hotline is also available. Call (800) 949-1848 for a single point of contact for veterans.

You can learn more about the new services in this veterans podcast edition of “A Better You,” which airs Saturday on KSOO-AM.
