FARGO, N.D. — Sanford Health in Fargo is a semifinalist for the U.S. government’s highest award to employers that support employees who serve in the National Guard Guard and Reserve.

The health system was chosen in the North Dakota large business category for the 2018 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve state committees selected 149 nominees from more than 2,350 nominations submitted by Guard members and reservists.

These semifinalists are from both large and small employers, as well as government organizations, representing numerous industries across the United States.

Sanford Health aims to become the employer, provider and partner of choice for service men and women through several efforts:

  • It created the Sanford Health Department of Veterans and Military Services.
  • Employees who have served have the option to display their veteran status on their identification badge.
  • Job-seeking veterans can visit Sanford Health’s veterans job site, which matches military jobs with open positions.
  • The Sanford Veteran Information Hotline is available by calling (800) 949-1848, providing veterans with a single point of contact for questions.
  • Sanford Health’s medical centers in Fargo and Sioux Falls, South Dakota, are building dedicated spaces for patients who are military veterans to use when visiting the facilities.
