SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –- The Sanford Pentagon and South Dakota Volleyball Association have entered into a partnership aimed at promoting and growing the sport across the region.

This will include two annual events: The South Dakota All-Star Volleyball Match and the South Dakota Volleyball Coaches Association Clinic. Both of these events will begin during the 2018-19 school year.

The all-star match will be held Sunday, Dec. 2, featuring 24 seniors from across the state. The coaches clinic -– with a featured speaker and break-out sessions –- will be March 22-23, 2019. Further details about both events will be released later.

“Volleyball is a cornerstone sport at the Sanford Sports Complex,” said Jesse Smith, director of operations for the Sanford Pentagon. “We couldn’t be more excited to partner with the South Dakota Volleyball Coaches Association to continue to foster its development.”

The SDVCA consists of 166 members from 92 schools, and those numbers continue to grow. Volleyball is the second-most popular sport in the nation for high schools girls, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations, with 446,583 participants in 2017-18.

The Sanford Pentagon is involved with volleyball in many ways. It is home to the Sanford POWER Volleyball Academy and the Sanford Pentagon Volleyball Club. It can accommodate as many as 11 courts at a time, and hosts high schools camps and tournaments, clubs tournaments and college matches, including the NCAA Division II national championships (2016, 2020).

“The South Dakota Volleyball Association is excited to begin our partnership with the Sanford Pentagon,” said Ronette Costain, president of the SDVBCA and head coach at Harrisburg High School. “This will be instrumental in further promoting and growing the sport of volleyball for players and coaches alike in South Dakota and the surrounding states.”
