Sanford Luverne physician earns statewide honor

LUVERNE, Minn. —Diane Kennedy, M.D., has been named the 2018 Family Physician of the Year by the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP). Kennedy was one of the four finalists out of 28 Minnesota physicians nominated for the award. She will receive her award on April 12 at the MAFP Academy Awards ceremony at the Saint Paul RiverCentre.

Kennedy is part of the team of physicians at Sanford Luverne Medical Center. She received her medical degree from the University of Minnesota in 1990 and completed her residency in family practice at Sioux Falls Family Practice Residency in 1993. Kennedy is board-certified by the American Board of Family Practice.

“Dr. Kennedy is not only an outstanding physician, but she is also genuinely personable and compassionate with her patients, staff and colleagues,” said Tammy Loosbrock, senior director of Sanford Luverne Medical Center. “Her heart compels her to help whenever she sees a need, whether it be at our facility or within this community. She is an inspiration to us.”

Each year, the MAFP presents its Academy Awards to recognize members for their hard work and dedication to Minnesota family medicine. The Minnesota Family Physician of the Year award recognizes a family physician who personifies the highest ideals of the specialty of family medicine and is the result of nominations by the general public, clinic administrators, MAFP members and nonmember family medicine colleagues.

“Considering the fact that all of the other nominated physicians are so deserving of this award, I was very humbled to be included as a nominee,” Kennedy said. “Being selected as the Family Physician of the Year is exciting, yet it would not be possible without the support of my colleagues and coworkers at Sanford Luverne.”

The MAFP is the largest medical specialty organization in Minnesota, representing more than 3,100 family physicians, family medicine residents and medical students.
