Sanford International golf tournament grounds taking shape

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –- Construction at Minnehaha Country Club for the upcoming Sanford International is ahead of schedule.

Work on grandstands, hospitality areas, concession stands and other areas throughout the course began on Aug. 6 and should be completed the first week of September. The event will be played Sept. 17-23 and feature a $1.8 million purse.

“It has been incredible to watch the transformation take place at Minnehaha Country Club,” said Sanford Health President and CEO Kelby Krabbenhoft. “This is another example of all of us coming together to bring great events to Sioux Falls and the region.”

To accommodate crews unloading equipment, 22nd Street from just west of the entrance to upper Sherman Park to just east of the exit from the park will be closed between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. through Sunday, Sept. 9.

“The golf course is in terrific shape, and the additions the staff at Minnehaha Country Club have made are impressive,” said Sanford International host and Sanford Health Board of Trustees member Andy North. “Without the leadership at Sanford Health and the support of all our partners, this tournament would not be possible. We can’t wait for September.”

More than 80,000 patrons are expected to attend the tournament during the week.

“We are blown away by the number of community members who are supporting the tournament,” said Sanford International Tournament Director Greg Conrad. “We are building a small city at Minnehaha Country Club and will have all the necessary amenities to ensure people have a memorable experience.”
