Sanford Health granted $11M to study population health

Sanford Health is one of only 20 institutions in the country to receive three Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence grants from the National Institutes of Health.

In June, the Population Health Group at Sanford Health, which studies health outcomes and disparities as they relate to public health and communities, was awarded more than $11.33 million over five years to study rural and American Indian health. The money will be used to support current research, recruit new faculty members and provide resources for new cores.

READ Core will provide support to investigators, review boards and tribes and ensure compliance with federal regulations for community-linked, transdisciplinary human subjects research. COMMAND Core helps with planning and designing research studies, collecting and managing data, analyzing and interpreting results.

Sanford Health also received an $11.8 million CoBRE grant for pediatric research that expires in 2018 and a $23 million CoBRE grant for cancer research that expires in 2021.

“Sanford Health is in good company with other top research institutions receiving CoBRE grants,” said David Pearce, Ph.D., vice president of innovation and research at Sanford Health. “It’s a testament to the quality of our research and our reputation that we’re successful in garnering these funds.”
