FARGO, N.D., Feb. 4, 2020 — Sanford Health Fargo is now offering hospice services, including home hospice care and the first in-hospital hospice in North Dakota.

Sanford Fargo Hospice House, the in-hospital hospice facility, allows patients to keep their health care team through the end of life as opposed to having to move to another organization during what can be a difficult and emotional time.

Sanford Fargo Hospice House is located on the second floor of the Sanford Broadway Medical Center in the former palliative care wing and includes family sleeping spaces, private consult space and a family dining area.

“Making in-hospital hospice available to our patients and their loved ones is important. Providing that continuity of care has long been a service we knew families needed when going through the end of life journey,” said Sanford Fargo president Bryan Nermoe. “Patient care is our number one priority and this service will allow patients to experience a familiarity and comfort level that hasn’t been afforded in the past as they get to stay with the physicians, nurses and the rest of the care team who have been with them step-by-step along the way.”

Plans to develop hospice services were initially announced in 2019 as part of Sanford’s goal to expand its Roger Maris Cancer Center into a national destination for cancer care.

Sanford’s hospice program offers a full range of support services, such as:

Sanford offers the full range of hospice services: routine, continuous, respite and general inpatient.

“Sanford has a team of physicians, nurses and other staff with specialized training in hospice and palliative care medicine,” said Sanford Fargo chief medical officer Douglas Griffin. “We are happy to bring this service to the Fargo metro.”

A public ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at Sanford Fargo Hospice House, 801 Broadway N., from 204 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, with an open house and tours following. Please park in the north parking ramp and enter through the main entrance at the glass rotunda.
