An open letter from President and CEO Kelby Krabbenhoft
SIOUX FALLS, S.D., April 1, 2020 — The COVID-19 pandemic is shaping our future before our eyes. Yet how we respond in these unprecedented times will determine our success in fighting this global outbreak.
Unprecedented times call for extraordinary spirit. I’m proud of the strong spirit in full display here at Sanford Health and the Good Samaritan Society.
Our workforce, stretched across the country — some 50,000 strong — has answered the call. We are leaning forward in a time of need. I’m grateful for how we are coming together as one family, responding with urgency to this public health crisis.
This virus has forced us to work in ways we might never have thought before. Visitor restrictions are a necessity. We’ve had to turn away loved ones from visiting family in our institutions in the name of safety. These aren’t things that are natural for us — or even instinctive — but they are necessary and will benefit us all in the future.
We have a role to play in managing our response to this crisis. Our response has been swift and will demand our attention for some time. As we have come to understand over the past few days and weeks, the only thing constant is change. And we do that well here at Sanford Health.
Rest assured, timely information is at our fingertips. Our local, state and federal government partners are at our side, and we stand ready to adjust our pandemic plans at a moment’s notice. We’re lending a hand wherever needed, and we’re truly inspired by the way in which our community partners are coming together to provide much needed support.
In times like these, we will be tested. This is a real hardship on our families, our neighbors and our communities. Daily lives have been upended. Let’s pull together and support one another in the face of one of the greatest challenges of modern times. Let’s be thankful, kind and considerate to one another.
I’m so proud of what we stand for. We are leaders in times of crisis. We are a family. Lean on each other for strength. Remember, we’re in this together.
Stay safe. We need you.
