Is demand for home safety products increasing?

Yes, this is a growing market, largely because of the aging baby boomer population. Few people want to go into a facility when they know they can stay in their own home with these products. They’ll be happier and probably more healthy.

Does insurance cover the cost of home safety modification?

No, insurance, Medicare and Medicaid won’t pay for the modifications, but we do help some customers tap some other grant and charity funding sources that are available. We’ve been doing this a long time and know the industry well.

What are some other ways people cover the costs?

A lot of customers we work with are children of aging parents who will help pay for the product to keep their parents in the home longer. A lot of parents live in these older two-story homes. The problem is your bathroom and bedrooms are on the second floor. We do see a lot of stair lifts in these types of homes where they can sit on a chair and ride to a second level. When you look at the cost of doing that, it’s a lot less than to move them to new or remodeled home. Plus they get to stay in their own home with their own surroundings. It’s a lot less stressful on them. We have a product for every situation.

Are some people reluctant to ask for help?

Sometimes parents are a little too proud. They use the terminology like “I’m an invalid” or “I’m worthless.” That’s certainly not the case, and normally once they get the home safety product they see it’s helping them get from level to level and helping them stay independent. We all know that as we get older our balance gets worse. Falls in the home are a big reason parents have to leave the house. These products keep them safe within the home and they work out great.
