Family medicine LPN driven by care, compassion

With just under a year of experience at a family medicine clinic in west Sioux Falls, Jeanette Hlaudy, LPN, is already making a big impact on patients and her colleagues.

The licensed practical nurse, and native of Lima, Peru, just celebrated her one year anniversary with Sanford Health in October.

For 14 years, Hlaudy served as a disability claims analyst in Cleveland, Ohio, helping patients over the phone as they apply for disability benefits.

“We couldn’t talk about anything medical because I wasn’t a nurse or medical professional so that’s where my interest started,” Hlaudy said. “I thought to myself, ‘I would love to help these people and have the knowledge to be able to do it.'”

Hlaudy and her husband moved to Sioux Falls in 2016 where she then pursued an licensed practical nursing degree and eventually landed her first job at the 32nd and Ellis Family Medicine Clinic.

After so many years working primarily over the phone, she is driven by helping people and being able to provide direct patient care.

“I like being able to help people and see them in front of me. I just feel very fortunate I can do that. That is what I’m passionate about. It fulfills as a person and professionally,” she explains. “I am bilingual, born in Peru, so for the Spanish population here, I just feel it’s very rewarding for me speak my language and help them at the same time.”

Not to mention, she’s honored to be recognized just one year into the job, noting a helpful team and her positive attitude helps everyday become a good day.

Hlaudy looks forward to going back to school for her registered nurse degree in 2021.
